ITINERARY

DURATION :9 Days / 8 Nights
PLACES COVERED :Delhi - Jaipur - Agra - Gwalior / Orchha - Alipura / Khajuraho - Varanasi - Delhi

DAY 1: ARRIVE DELHI
Arrive at Delhi's International Airport, where our representative, who will give a traditional Indian welcome with garlands and later escort you to the hotel, will meet you upon arrival

DAY 2: SIGHTSEEING IN DELHI
Today you will spend the day discovering the vibrant city of Old and New Delhi. Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Old Delhi, which includes a visit to Jama Masjid (one of the largest mosques in India), Raj Ghat (cremation sites of Mahatma Gandhi). Also, drive past Red Fort and Chandni Chowk (Silver Street), the epicenter of Old Delhi.

Afternoon sightseeing tour of New Delhi includes a visit to Qutab Minar (built by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak in 1199), Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, and India Gate (War Memorial Arch). Also, drive past President's House, Parliament House and other Government Secretariat Buildings.

DAY 3: DRIVE DELHI - JAIPUR
After breakfast, embark on a leisurely drive to Jaipur - land of the Rajputs. Jaipur is an exuberance of colour, dance and traditional arts and crafts. Known, as the 'Pink City', Jaipur is home to ancient forts and palaces and is one of India's most well planned cities.

Enjoy a heritage walk in the old city of Jaipur, seeing life along the small alleys and by-lanes. Interact with the local artisans enamelling jewels with local 'meenakari' work, along with goldsmiths and silversmiths of the region. Visit gems, jewels and carpet weaving factories - watch artisans creating unique masterpieces and enjoy haggling for souvenirs in colourful bazaars of Jaipur.

DAY 4: SIGHTSEEING IN JAIPUR
After breakfast, enjoy an excursion to Amber Fort. Here, enjoy an Elephant Ride to reach the top of the Fort. Once the capital of royals, the fort is a superb example of Rajput architecture, a complex of palaces, temples, exquisite marble and mirror-inlaid halls and apartments.

This afternoon, visit the City Palace complex with its museums and Jantar Mantar, the ancient astronomical observatory, and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), built in the 18th century. This palace with its innumerable windows and screened balconies was especially built for the royal women to view the city and processions from behind their purdahs.

DAY 5: DRIVE JAIPUR - AGRA / SIGHTSEEING IN AGRA
This morning, embark on a leisurely drive to Agra. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and freshen up.This afternoon visit the Agra fort, which is built in red sandstone and has magnificent palaces, halls of public and private audience and beautiful gardens.

DAY 6: SIGHTSEEING OF AGRA / DRIVE AGRA - ORCHHA VIA GWALIOR
Early morning, experience the awe-inspiring beauty of the eternal symbol of love, the Taj Mahal. Often referred to as a poem in white marble, Taj Mahal displays the saga of love between Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.

This morning, you have the option to enjoy a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal.After breakfast, drive to Orchha, a medieval riverside town known for its palaces and temples. En route to Orchha, make a brief stop at Gwalior, the city of warrior kings, poets, musicians and saints. A historic city, Gwalior is known for its old magnificent fort which houses a number of ruined palaces and interesting temples. The history of Gwalior Fort dates back to over a thousand years. This afternoon, visit Gwalior Fort and then continue drive to Orchha.
Upon arrival in Orchha, check in at your hotel for overnight stay.

DAY 7: SIGHTSEEING IN ORCHA / DRIVE ORCHHA - KHAJURAHO
After breakfast, enjoy a half day tour of Orchha. Apart from the famous landmarks like Jahangir Mahal and Laxmi Narayan Temple, the town is peppered with fascinating little shrines and memorials.

Later in the morning, embark on your drive to Khajuraho - a UNESCO world heritage site in central India, famous for its erotic sculptured temples. En route to Khajuraho, visit the quaint town of Alipura and enjoy lunch at Alipura Palace.

Upon arrival at Khajuraho, check in at your hotel and freshen up. This evening enjoy the famous cultural dance show of Khajuraho (dance show operates daily from August to April).

DAY 8: FLY KHAJURAHO - VARANASI / ARRIVE VARANASI
Enjoy an early morning visit to the enchanting temples of Khajuraho with sculptures that draw their inspiration from the ancient art of Kama sutra. Khajuraho Temples were built by the Chandela kings between 950 AD and 1050 AD.

Later in the morning, you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight to Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India (also known as Kashi and Benaras).

Upon arrival in Varanasi, check in to your hotel and freshen up. This evening, experience a rikshaw ride to the ghats to enjoy the grand 'Aarti' ceremony at Dasaswamedh Ghat, conducted everyday at sunset by white-robed priests. The young priests sway in seemingly choreographed movements, worshiping the river goddess with incense, flowers and earthen lamps.

DAY 9: FLY VARANASI - DELHI / ARRIVE DELHI (DEPARTURE)
Enjoy an early morning boat ride on the Holy River Ganges. See the 'bathing ghats' where thousands of pilgrims pay homage to the Sun God by immersing themselves in the holy water of River Ganges, and the 'burning ghats' where cremations are conducted.

After the boat ride, return to your hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, enjoy a visit to Sarnath, the place where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. Sarnath was a renowned school of learning from 6th century BC to 12th century AD. The Ashoka pillar of Sarnath is the national emblem of India. Visit the ruins, stupa, Buddhist temple and the Sarnath Museum.

This afternoon, catch your flight to Delhi. Upon arrival at Delhi, you will be transferred to the International Airport, to board your flight back home.
